This athame, perfect for traditional witchcraft, ceremonial high magick  and wicca was forged from iron. Detailing hammers and blacksmith stamps are used to create the effects and imprint sigils and symbols of witchcraft. 10 inches in total length, of which the blade is 5.5 inches.

The blade has been detailed with goddess sigils on one side. The crazy colors are what Paul calls his "oil on water" effect. The colors are caused by tempering, heat treating, for an extended 4 hours. It is basically a patina. Paul read that back in the days of Knights some would have their armorer colorize their suits of armor in the same way! The iron colors differently depending on where and how much it has been compressed by hammering. The colors are durable. Using a strong acid will remove them, this is not the best athame for dipping in wine for example. But the colors should last a long time. Paul offers after care, and if you want the blade re-colored then just pay the postage to send it back to us and the return postage and Paul will re-color it for you for free.

The handle is hand carved from real African Gaboon Ebony, which is expensive and reflected in the price. A black hilted witchcraft dagger is a very traditional choice in both Wicca and old school Grimoire Magick. Sacred to Saturn so perfect for protection and works of discipline, focus,  and needed change.

The handle is then oiled with our Luna Ignis anointing oils to make the grain pop and to protect the wood.

Unique hand forged heirloom quality athame by our pagan blacksmith. Paul is a practitioner of traditional witchcraft and ceremonial magick.

Iron is sacred to Mars.

In Ceremonial magick and some witchcraft traditions the dagger or athame represents the element of air and therefore used to control, banish, or destroy.

In some Wicca traditions the athame represents the element of fire and is perfect for a weapon of manifestation and circle casting.

The Tubal Cain mythos also has iron as a tool of our will and apostasy, Yahweh after the expulsion from Eden told Adam and Eve they would have to scrabble among the thorns for their food... But Tubal Cain, 7th son of Cain had other ideas and discovered the working of iron and became the first blacksmith. To the Tubal Cain currents of witchcraft iron is therefore a tool of our will.
