Oggun is the Orisha of iron, creator of tools and knives.  He is a fierce warrior and the patron for anyone who works with metals.  According to Yoruba, Oggun sentenced himself to never sleep or rest as long as the world was turning.  For this, the work of mankind never ceases, while half of the population is asleep, the other half is helping the world to advance.  Oggun is worshipped for his force to keep the world moving, his protective nature, and his ability to spark ingenuity in people's minds.

An Orisha is a spirit that reflects one of the manifestations of God in Africa's Yoruba religion.  Many Orishas have found their way throughout the Americas via the Atlantic Slave Trade and are now expressed in practices as varied as Santeria, Candomble, Trinidad Orisha, and Oyotunji.
